How to soften leather:
Leather is a popular material in fashion, typically utilised as clothing, accessories or even as functional furniture pieces as it is a very durable material. However, depending on the source of your leather, it can sometimes be a little tough and inflexible. That’s why in this blog, we’ll outline some methods you can use to soften you leather to get it to a desirable suppleness.
1. Alcohol + Vaseline
2. Natural Oils
3. Conditioner
Alcohol + Vaseline:
1. Apply a generous portion of rubbing alcohol to a cotton pad. Then, rub the soaked cotton pad onto the surface of your leather item until it turns shiny.
2. Afterward, apply Vaseline to the surface. If you think you can apply a few more layers as the leather is absorbing it well, do so.
3. Leave it to dry overnight.
Coconut Oil:
1.It is important that the surface of the leather gets direct heat before applying the coconut oil. Therefore, you can either leave it in the sun for 10 minutes or use a hair dryer.
2. Then, take a spoonful of coconut oil and rub it in to an area, make sure it has absorbed well and continue until the surface is coated evenly.
*Be mindful that Coconut oil will darken the leather a shade or two*
Conditioner:
1. Apply a leather care conditioner (lanolin-based product), to the leather.
2. If you still think that the surface is stiff, you can apply several coats, until your desired suppleness is achieved.
